2012 Showcase:

We are pleased to provide below full details of the forthcoming Davey Music end of year showcase concert, which will
take place on Sunday June 24th 2012 in The Studio at Belfast Waterfront Hall. The concert will follow a similar format to last year, with the Davey Music students performing in Junior, Intermediate and Advanced groups, along with a number of smaller items. This year we are delighted to welcome new special guests The Lisburn Flute Orchestra, and our friends Beyond the Pale and the excellent Ballynafeigh Irish Dancers will be making a very welcome return visit to our concert. MC for the evening will once again be the highly entertaining Mr. Gerry O’Neill. We are in regular contact with the events team at The Waterfront and we are obliged to follow their guidance with regard to all matters relating to this event, particularly the health & safety of the large number of children who will be involved in the concert. For your information, the essential details of the concert are given below:

Tickets
The tickets for the concert are now on sale directly from The Waterfront, so we would ask you all to invite as many family members and friends as possible to support this event and then book your tickets as soon as you can – please note that due to the large numbers of players involved in the concert, particularly in the finalé, it will not be possible for us to have additional seating provided on the evening. Please be sure to book your tickets well in advance because we are advertising this concert widely and tickets are already selling.

Rehearsals
Junior & Intermediate musicians are required to attend a rehearsal on Saturday June 23rd from 2:00pm to 3:30pm in St. Michael’s Parish Centre, Finaghy Road North, Belfast. This will be a rehearsal of each group’s specific music along with the opening music and finalé music. Advanced musicians are required to attend a rehearsal on Sunday June 24th from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in The Waterfront Studio. This will be a rehearsal of the Advanced group’s music along with opening music and finalé music. The Junior and Intermediate musicians will be permitted to use printed music for the rehearsals and the concert, and this will be provided by us. The Advanced musicians will not be using music for either the rehearsal or concert. Please ensure that lesson files are NOT brought to rehearsals or concert – thank you.

Home Practice
All students will have been working on their concert music in their lessons under the direction of their tutor. We have
made recordings of the concert music available on the Davey Music website: please note that these are now located in the new ‘2012 Showcase’ section of the website, accessed from the homepage. It is essential that all students complement their lesson work with regular home practice and we would ask parents to ensure that this is done. Your Davey Music tutor will advise as to which group each student will be playing in during the concert.

Dress Code
All Davey Music musicians will adopt the following concert dress: black from waist down, ie. black shoes, black trousers/skirt and black socks/tights; a PLAIN coloured T-shirt (not black or white). Concert dress is not required for the rehearsals but all Davey Music musicians must arrive at the concert in concert dress.

Arrangements for the Evening
Bearing in mind the very large number of young children involved in this event, we are obliged to put in place strict
procedures for their safe and efficient management. We are placing the highest priority on this and are working closely with the events team at The Waterfront to ensure that all health and safety guidelines are fully observed. On the evening, all Davey Music musicians must be brought to The Waterfront STAGE DOOR by 6:00pm, fully dressed for the performance, where they will be met by designated Davey Music team members who will bring them to the dressing rooms backstage – the stage door is to the right of the main Waterfront Hall revolving door entrance. On the evening, all Davey Music team members will be wearing clearly-identifiable white T-shirts displaying the Davey Music logo: please do not leave children with anyone not wearing a Davey Music white T-shirt. Children must not be left off outside The Waterfront – they must be brought to the Davey Music team by a parent or another responsible adult. Whilst the children are backstage, they will be supervised at all times by Davey Music team members who will ensure that they are brought on and off stage as necessary. Unfortunately it will not be possible for the children to join the audience for the second half of the performance as we plan to bring them back onstage at the very end of the evening, so we will continue their supervision backstage until this time.
Davey Music team members will be leading younger musicians in a range of games and activities whilst they are backstage but books/magazines may also be brought by musicians if desired – items such as iPads, games consoles or similar should not be brought to the concert. NEITHER DAVEY MUSIC NOR THE WATERFRONT CAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY SUCH ITEMS THAT ARE LOST OR DAMAGED.
All Davey Music musicians will be provided with light refreshments backstage during the interval. At the end of the concert, children will be brought to the front of house where they may be collected by a parent or another responsible adult. No child will be allowed to leave until they have been collected in person by an adult. The concert begins at 7:00pm and is scheduled to finish by 9:30pm.

Photography & Video
For this event, we would request that audience members do not take photographs or videos at any stage during the
performance. We will be hiring a professional photographer to cover the event and copies of the photographs taken on the night will be available for purchase afterwards. The issues surrounding photographing children are well known but it is also worth keeping in mind that flash photography in particular can be distracting for performers so we would be grateful for your understanding and co-operation in this important matter.

We are looking forward very much to this, the 4th annual Davey Music end of year concert, which has been arranged to allow the families and friends of the Davey Music students to join with them in a celebration of their talents and their many achievements during the past year.
